Free range time is important in guinea pig ownership, it gives your guinea pig exercise and is fun too. Even if your guinea pig has a big cage you still need to give it free range so they can get their exercise. There are many saftey prcautions for free range too...
1. Make sure your guinea pig can't reach any wires, cables or cords, your guiena pig can chew on it and get shocked.
2. Be sure all house plants are out of reach.
3. If you own a cat or dog PLEASE keep them away from your guina pig and out of the room. Keep an eye on your pig at all times when roaming free.
4. Location is important, kitchen is a bad idea a guinea pig can fit through VERY tight spaces (trust me I know from experience) and they can get stuck behind stoves, dishwashers, and cupboards. I let Carmel roam in my living room because there are not many places to crawl under or get stuck.
5. Make sure all family members are aware that your guinea pigs are free roaming.
6. Make sure your guinea pig allways has access to fresh water and hay while free range.
7. Keep plastice bags away from guinea pigs please! Chewing on them can cause intestinal blockage.
